441 stainless steel is a ferritic stainless steel grade with approximately 18% chromium content, along with titanium and niobium as stabilizing elements. This composition provides the alloy with good resistance to corrosion in mildly corrosive environments. While its corrosion resistance is not as high as that of austenitic stainless steels like 304, 441 stainless steel finds application in areas such as automotive exhaust systems where it can withstand high temperatures and exposure to gases and moisture. Its formability and weldability make it suitable for shaping into complex components.

Unlike austenitic stainless steels, 441 stainless steel exhibits magnetic properties due to its ferritic structure. Its lower cost compared to some other stainless steel grades makes it an attractive choice for specific applications where corrosion resistance and heat resistance are key, but the demands for extreme corrosion resistance are not as critical. However, for more general applications requiring broader corrosion resistance and mechanical properties, other stainless steel grades like 304 might be preferred.
